February Carbon & Alloy Steel Imports Up 21,8 Percent From Prior Month

According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) on a month-to-month basis, during February 2023, imports reached 103 946 tonnes (1. 8 billion) of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire), an increase of 21,8% compared to 85 373 tonnes (R1.7 billion) during January 2023.
The biggest contributors were profiles (31,0%) and flat steel products ( increased by 21,3%) of primary carbon and alloy steel products.

Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) surged on year-on-year basis, increasing by 23,7% during February 2023 compared to 84 026 tonnes (R1.7 billion) imported during February 2022.
