Steel is essential to the modern world and the use of steel is critical in enabling man to move towards a more sustainable future. Steel is fundamental in a greener world, whether in lighter more efficient vehicles, renewable energy generation, new highly efficient power stations and construction of smart electrical grids or transport infrastructure development and high energy efficient residential housing and commercial buildings.

SAISI Environmental Policy
It is SAISI policy to reduce the impact of our members’ operations on the environment. The goal is to promote sustainability, environmental and climate awareness.
In pursuance of the above, SAISI members strive to:
- Continually improve our environmental performance.
- Comply with applicable environmental legislation and other requirements.
- Implement effective pollution prevention measures and promote programmes that embrace the circular economy.
- Implement environmental management systems.
- Develop/implement innovative technologies.
- Promote the efficient use of energy and water.
- Reduce CO2 footprint of steel production where technically and economically feasible.
